FAQs

How many seasons is the tent suitable for?

The tent is designed for true four-season camping. The breathable canvas keeps you warm in cold weather while reducing the condensation commonly found in synthetic tents. In warmer weather, multiple ventilation options provide excellent airflow and comfort.

The sleeping bag is best suited for 2–3 season use. We intentionally chose a lighter bag to suit a wide range of climates and riders, especially since the compact interior of the tent retains warmth well. For winter trips or colder climates, we recommend adding a winter liner. You can also remove the included sleeping bag entirely and use your own preferred setup.

How waterproof is the tent?

Extremely waterproof.

Canvas has been trusted in outdoor environments for generations and is widely used by military and expedition-style campers alike. When exposed to moisture, the cotton fibres naturally swell to create a tight, weather-resistant seal around stitching and seams.

In addition, the canvas is pre-treated to further enhance its natural waterproof qualities.

Why don’t you use lighter materials?

We have no plans to replace canvas with synthetic materials.

For us, the durability, longevity, and breathable waterproof qualities of canvas far outweigh the benefits of shaving off a little extra weight. We originally experimented with inflatable mattresses during the prototype stage, but they simply didn’t hold up long term when tightly rolled with poles and hardware.

The foam mattress is significantly more comfortable and far more durable.

We built Wingman products to last decades — not seasons. Our goal has always been to move away from disposable camping gear and create equipment that riders can rely on for years of adventure.

Does the tent need waterproofing spray?

No. Your Wingman tent comes pre-treated and ready for use.

After a year or two of regular use, you may choose to refresh the waterproof coating with a canvas-safe waterproofing spray.

Before your first trip, please read the “Wingman Care” section on our website for instructions on properly conditioning your tent.

Can I purchase the tent without the mattress and sleeping bag?

No. Wingman tents are sold as a complete system.

However, both the mattress and sleeping bag can be fully removed if you prefer to use your own gear.

How long does setup take?

Setup and pack-down can both be done in under five minutes.

Does the tent come with a warranty?

Yes.

  • Tent: 3-year warranty
  • Poles: 1-year warranty

Warranties are non-transferable and apply only to products purchased directly from Wingman Of The Road.

Won’t the bike fall over?

As long as you choose stable ground and properly secure your motorcycle, you shouldn’t have any issues.

We recommend:

  • Using a kickstand puck or flat piece of wood on soft ground
  • Being mindful of wind direction
  • Avoiding unstable terrain or low hanging branches

How should I attach the packed Goose or Toucan to my bike?

We recommend using Rok Straps for the most secure fit and best compression. Ratchet straps or bungee cords also work well.

The Goose can be mounted:

  • On a luggage rack
  • Vertically against a sissy bar
  • Across the passenger seat

For the Toucan, we recommend mounting on a luggage rack.

Where can I store my riding gear?

You can store your gear in the covered space between the tent and your motorcycle.

In severe weather, items can also be wrapped inside the waterproof cover and placed beneath the awning.

Additional storage features include:

  • Hidden hanging hooks for helmets, gloves, boots, and gear
  • An interior valuables pouch inside the tent

Does the tent rely on the bike for support?

No. Wingman tents are fully freestanding and do not require the motorcycle for structure or support.

Do I need to use stakes?

For the best setup, we recommend staking out both ends of the tent using the included guy lines and stakes.

That said, the tent will still hold its structure without staking, making it easy to set up almost anywhere — even on hard surfaces like parking lots.

Will the Wingman work with my motorcycle?

Yes. Wingman tents can be used with virtually any motorcycle.

The main consideration is simply how you plan to carry the packed roll on your bike.

Can I wash the sleeping bag?

Yes. Both the sleeping bag and mattress cover can be removed and machine washed using a delicate or hand wash setting.

  • Air dry only
  • Do not tumble dry

Please take care when reinstalling the mattress cover to avoid damaging the foam insert.

Does the tent need a groundsheet?

No. The tent base is made from heavy-duty waterproof PVC.

Can the tent be locked?

Yes. If desired, you can add small padlocks to the zipper pulls for additional security.
