Wingman Care
Everything you need to keep your Wingman tent adventure-ready for years to come.
Before Your First Trip
Before first use, we recommend conditioning your tent to maximize its weather resistance.
- Remove the mattress and sleeping bag
- Fully zip all doors and windows closed
- Lightly hose down the outside canvas
- Allow the tent to fully air dry
This process allows the cotton canvas fibres to swell naturally, helping the fabric achieve its renowned waterproof performance.
Packing Up Your Tent
Avoid packing wet whenever possible. If you need to pack up in wet weather:
- Fully close all zippers before rolling
- Shake off excess water
- Roll the tent as normal
- Air it out and dry it completely as soon as possible
Never store your Wingman tightly rolled while damp or wet, as this can lead to mildew and damage over time.
If storing your tent long-term or over winter, make sure it is completely dry and loosely rolled.
Mattress & Sleeping Bag Care
- Machine wash on a cold or low-temperature setting
- Hand wash is recommended where possible
- Do not tumble dry
Please note: the mattress cover can be difficult to refit onto the foam pad, so we only recommend removing it when necessary.
Cleaning Your Tent
To clean the canvas:
- Use water with a soft brush or sponge only
- Avoid soap, detergents, or harsh cleaning chemicals
These products can damage the canvas and reduce its waterproof properties.
Condensation & Ventilation
Condensation is a normal part of camping. The average person releases around 500ml (17oz) of moisture overnight through breathing.
Your Wingman tent is built using premium breathable canvas designed to minimize condensation, but under certain conditions — such as cold, still nights — some internal moisture may still appear. This is normal and should not be mistaken for a leak.
For best airflow:
- Keep the awning properly attached to your motorcycle
- Open end windows when possible
- Maximize ventilation whenever conditions allow
With the multiple ventilation options built into your Wingman, condensation should rarely be an issue.
Attaching The Awning To Your Motorcycle
- Park your motorcycle securely on its side stand
- Attach the awning to the side the bike naturally leans toward
- In heavy rain, angle one side of the awning lower to help prevent water pooling
Motorcycle Stability & Setup Safety
When attaching your Wingman to a motorcycle, it is the rider’s responsibility to ensure the motorcycle is stable and safely positioned. Please:
- Choose firm, level ground whenever possible
- Be mindful of wind direction and changing weather
- Use a side stand puck or plate on soft terrain if needed
As motorcycle manufacturers cannot guarantee side stand stability in every environment, Wingman cannot assume responsibility for improper setup conditions.
Campsite Safety
For safety, avoid setting up:
- Under trees with heavy or unstable branches
- In dry creek beds or flood-prone areas
- In exposed areas during extreme winds where possible
Moving Your Tent
Do not attempt to lift or move the erected tent using the telescopic ridge pole, as this may bend or damage the pole. If the tent needs repositioning, carefully lift using the canvas body instead.
